After reading a good review of Big Daddy's in the local paper, Chino Valley Review, I thought it would be a good idea to give them a try. I am no stranger to BBQ. I have lived in the South and have sampled BBQ from many famed regions. Big Daddy's fits squarely in the category of "nice try". Admittedly I only tried their ribs but that was enough to convince me that I will not go back. The main problem with the ribs was the excessive creosote flavor. It totally dominated the meat. They tasted as though they were subjected to the wood smoke before the wood had a chance to burn into charcoal. When asked by the waitress how the ribs tasted I mentioned the heavy creosote taste and she said they use local oak wood and it imparts that flavor. I believe her and stated that that's why I no longer use local oak for smoking meat at home. It is my experience that oak wood from this part of Arizona is not suitable for smoking meat. To me, the creosote level borders on toxic and I would caution people to not ingest a lot of meat smoked this way. The coleslaw and BBQ sauces were okay but ordinary. I don't believe that an experienced BBQ fan will be pleased with Big Daddy's product.

The people here are great, and there's outdoor seating when I want to take my dog for a real treat. It's not 5 stars only because of the availability and off-beat open hours. There's a few side dishes that I absolutely love (potato salad) and then others that are WTH (beans). They also have a really cool cash register.

I came here for the first time a little over a year ago and was blown away by the ribs! Since then, I've been gushing about them, but every time we come up to Chino they'd be closed already. I finally ate here again yesterday, even after hearing that they switch owners, and was disappointed by the food, especially the ribs. Nothing like it was in the past. Their pulled pork was actually good, considering I don't care for pulled pork normally. But nothing amazing. I could make better food at home. If I was forced to eat here again I would, but I wouldn't choose this place over other options.

Absolutely love big this place. The sliders and jalapeño slaw are incredible. Highly recommend that, or the big daddy sandwich

After a day of sightseeing, we met a couple from our former church in Chino Valley for dinner. Three of us had delicious prime rib with sides. My wife had the pulled pork plate which also delicious. We could tell by the busyness that the place is popular with local diners

Delicious barbecue lunch restaurant where you order among a selection of choice smoked meats at the counter. Indoor and outdoor seating is plentiful for a small place. Seating outside is affected by flies but otherwise it was great. Special sauces come with the meals.

Not sure where the "meat falling off the bones" ribs were from, but the ones I had last week, needed tearing off the bone!!!!! They were almost like plastic ribs!! They weren't worth the money. Even the dog was hesitant! The 50/50 sandwich was ok but I've had better pulled pork at the Hard Rock Cafe. This place sure smells good and it's buzzing Friday nights but it is the only bar b q place for miles around. Not sure it's worth the money. When you go in this place, it's so small you can't tell who is in line to order or who is waiting. Then the soda machine is across the other side of the room and people walking back and forth as you try to order or read the menu is sure a pain. My opinion, over rated!!!!!!

okay so yes it is the only BBQ in chino valley..but its not the only BBQ in the area.. but still i choose this place over the other places. they workers are always friendly and on top of their game. they remember their customers and make it a nice place to come back to.. I LOVE the sliders.. and the coleslaw is the best I've had in a long time.. other than the hours making it hard to get in sometimes.. its a place you should try.. UPDATE they are under new management so the hours have changed a little and some of the food tastes a little different.. still really good

Solid BBQ! Ribs falling off the bone, pulled pork was juicy and not dry at all, respectable tri-tip, tasty mac & cheese, and a very deliciously interesting jalapeño cole slaw!

LOVED the food....no problem driving the few extra miles from Prescott for this food. The staff is great too. I agree with all the other 5 star comments.....no need to repeat!

Best BBQ place in town. Great service, friendly staff & great quality food at a reasonable price.

I have it on GREAT authority the owner knows what he's doing with food...next time I'm within 100 miles of Chino Valley, I'm stoppin' by Big Daddy's and having some excellent BBQ and laughs. I'm not a "foody" like the previous comments, and agree with Martha that it seems one of them has nothing good to say in their reviews either. If you're lookin for high class, this isn't your place...if you're lookin for white linens, this isn't your place either. If you're lookin for GOOD FOOD, you won't be disappointed!!

I thought my big daddy sandwich was pretty good, and did not taste of creosote. I did not have the ribs. . I would agree with JL on the local oak for smoking. Why anyone in mesquite country would use anything else is a mystery to me.
